01

Motivation Behind Project

The idea for this project originated from a conversation with a friend. We noticed a pattern among ourselves and our peers: while we were successful in our professional lives, we struggled to accomplish personal tasks.

02

The Problem

Many professionals thrive in their careers but find it challenging to stay on top of personal tasks and goals. Despite their success at work, they struggle to maintain consistency and accountability in their personal lives. Recognizing this common struggle among individuals, there's a clear need for a peer accountability app that facilitates support and encouragement among users, helping them achieve personal objectives effectively and consistently.

Market Research

Observations:

There's a noticeable trend where people tend to work harder when they know others are holding them accountable for their actions. Research supports this, indicating that publicly sharing goals leads to a success rate of about 65%. However, this success rate jumps to 95% when individuals have a specific accountability partner.

The Issue:

Many individuals struggle to stay accountable for personal tasks and goals outside of their professional commitments.

Competitive Analysis

Competitive Analysis

Upon conducting a comprehensive evaluation, I discovered numerous existing applications similar to my envisioned concept. These include Snap Habit, Keystone, and Habitat, among others.

Strengths:

These applications facilitate users in establishing and tracking habits effectively.

Weaknesses:

However, they are primarily marketed as habit-building tools, resembling task trackers rather than comprehensive accountability platforms like Pear.

05

User Interviews

In order to gain valuable insights from real individuals, I conducted a series of structured interviews with peers within my network. Due to time and financial constraints, I limited the interviews to individuals I already knew.

Interview Structure:

The interviews were structured around a set of carefully crafted questions, designed to elicit responses regarding goal-setting behavior, accountability mechanisms, challenges encountered, and factors contributing to success.

Sample Questions:

  1. When was the last goal you set, and what was the motivation behind it?

  2. Did you implement any strategies to hold yourself accountable for achieving this goal?

  3. What were the most significant challenges you faced while pursuing this goal, and why?

  4. Did you ultimately achieve this goal? If not, can you recall a goal you failed to achieve and the reasons behind it?

  5. Can you share examples of personal goals you have successfully accomplished outside of your professional life?

  6. What do you believe contributed to the success of these goals compared to those that were not achieved?

  7. What typically motivates you in pursuing your goals?

Key Insights:

Noteworthy comments from the interviews included instances where external pressures, such as societal expectations or the fear of failure, played significant roles in driving motivation and accountability.

Project Summary

Project Summary

Throughout the course of this project, I undertook several key activities aimed at understanding the market landscape and user perspectives. This included conducting market assessments, engaging in user interviews, and conducting a mini usability study online. Additionally, I developed a series of low-fidelity wireframes, which were subsequently refined into a high-fidelity prototype featuring visually appealing UI designs.
